World Rallycross Championship extends deal with Portuguese event host

The Montalegre RX circuit in northern Portugal will continue to stage a World Rallycross Championship event for the next five years after extending its hosting agreement with the motor-racing series.

The announcement was made by Orlando Alves, Mayor of Montalegre, and Manuel Mello Breyener, president of the Portuguese Federation of Automobile and Karting (FPAK), alongside World Rallycross managing director for the IMG agency, Paul Bellamy.

The announcement came during the weekend’s event at the circuit, which marked the second race of the 2017 season.

Bellamy said: “The Montalegre RX organisers have worked exceptionally hard over the past 12 months to raise the standard at our Portuguese leg of the World Championship. We’ve seen major infrastructure changes such as an expanded paddock, new grandstand and spectator areas, a bigger press room and brand new medical centre. The team have also worked hard at marketing with excellent promotion of the event throughout north Portugal.”
