Women’s Premier League franchises fetch $572m for BCCI

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has today (Wednesday) announced the successful bidders for franchises in its new Women’s Premier League T20 competition, with the five teams having sold for a collective INR 4669.99 crores (€527m/$572m).

The BCCI opened the bidding process for the right to own and operate teams in the new competition at the start of the month. The BCCI did not officially disclose the asking price for purchasing a franchise but reports in India claimed that a base price of INR 400 crores was set – a figure that has been comfortably surpassed.
