Wolves to open Chinese megastore, claim first with barrier seating

English Premier League football team Wolverhampton Wanderers is to launch a new retail store in Shanghai this summer, while the club has also announced plans to fit barrier seating at its Molineux stadium.

The new Wolves Megastore will open during the club’s participation in the Premier League Asia Trophy in the summer. It will be located near to the headquarters of the Fosun conglomerate, which owns the club, in Shanghai’s iconic Bund area.

Wolves will become one of the first anchor tenants at the brand-new Bund Financial Centre shopping mall, with its store to feature replica products and a number of Wolves-inspired fashion lines that are unique to the Chinese market. The store will open in early July, with an official ribbon cutting to be held on July 15.

Three smaller pop-up stores will also open in Nanjing, Hangzhou and Chengdu.

Wolves managing director Laurie Dalrymple said: “We see China as a key market for us, both in terms of fan acquisition and also developing the commercial aspirations of the club, and timing the store opening for when the first team and staff are in Shanghai was a natural fit.

“This is a giant step forward for us, a really ambitious project that we have been working on together with our colleagues in China, and we are really looking forward to the store’s opening this July.”

Meanwhile, Wolves has announced that all seats in Molineux’s Sir Jack Hayward Stand will be replaced this summer by a new barrier-seating solution. The club said it will be the first in the Premier League club to install seats incorporating barriers in an existing stadium.

All seats in the Stan Cullis quadrant will also be fitted with an independent barrier, in compliance with the Sports Ground Safety Authority’s most recent guidance.

Standing areas at football stadia in the top two tiers of English football is currently outlawed, but the latest edition of the SGSA’s Green Guide features guidelines on the use of ‘seats incorporating barriers’ and ‘seats with independent barriers’.
