Wolfsburg grows US presence with Orlando City tie-up

VfL Wolfsburg is aiming to expand its presence in the United States by inking a partnership deal with Orlando City that covers both men’s and women’s soccer.

Wolfsburg operates teams in the Bundesliga and Frauen-Bundesliga while Orlando City does so in Major League Soccer and the NWSL.

Both clubs will look to share best practices, including front office sales and marketing work.

“We have high hopes for this inaugural partnership with an MLS club,” said Marcel Schäfer, sporting director for VfL Wolfsburg. “We intend to lend our expertise in all areas, but we can also learn a lot from how US clubs are structured.”

The partnership is the third for Orlando City with a major European club, joining deals with Benfica and Stoke City. Orlando also has a deal with Club Atletico Paranaense, of Brazil.
