The International Waterski and Wakeboard Federation (IWWF) has awarded the hosting rights for its 2015 World Water Ski Racing Championships to the New Zealand capital of Wellington.
The event, which will take place from April 8-19, 2015 in Wellington Harbour, will mark the second occasion that the New Zealand Water Ski Racing Association has secured hosting rights after it also staged the 2007 Championships in Rotorua and Taupo.
Teams from around the world will compete for six titles, including the Men’s Formula 1 and 2, Women’s Formula 1 and 2, and Junior Under-17 Boys and Girls. The teams will compete in four rounds over the course of a week, with competitors’ three best results counting towards the world title awards. Men will compete for 60 minutes, while women and junior will compete for 45 and 30 minutes respectively.
The most recent World Water Ski Racing Championships took place in Tenerife, Spain last year. All individual and team events were won by competitors from Australia.
