Dutch Eredivisie football club Vitesse Arnhem has expanded its association with e-commerce firm the Badge Company in a deal designed to support the development of its Voetbalshop.nl brand.
Voetbalshop.nl will become a partner of Vitesse for the remainder of the 2019-20 season, taking branding rights on the shirt sleeves and main sponsor status for the club’s esports team.
Voetbalshop.nl is the largest online football shop in the Benelux region and is planning to open physical retail outlets in the Netherlands.
Olivier Smit, commercial director of Vitesse, said: “Through our collaboration with Nike, we came in contact with Badge. We have worked together intensively and very pleasantly over the past year. We got to know Badge as a progressive organisation. These are the first results of our strategic cooperation. We will use the coming period to intensify the partnership.”
Roland Heerkens, founder and partner of Badge, added: “We see the partnership and shirt sponsorship as a first step towards a much longer and more extensive collaboration. In the coming period, Voetbalshop.nl wants to focus on opening physical football shops in various regions in the Netherlands, apart from the exploitation of club web and fan shops. This is to expand contact with our customers and amateur clubs through these shops.”
In July, Vitesse signed shirt sponsorship deals with the Netherlands Open Air Museum and the Koninklijke Burgers’ Zoo, which are both located in Arnhem. The two companies became the joint main sponsors of the club for the 2019-20 Eredivisie season.
US sportswear company Nike also started providing Vitesse’s kit from this season. The company signed a four-year deal with the club in March, replacing Italian sportswear manufacturer Macron in the role.
