The United States Olympic & Paralympic Committe (USOPC) has signed global pharmaceutical company Eli Lilly as a sponsor the US Olympic and Paralympic teams in a deal also involves its broadcast rights-holder NBCUniversal.
The one-year agreement encompasses the 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games. It is the first deal to have been conducted by the USOPC and NBCUniversal together to secure sponsorship and media commitments.
It will be activated through the brand’s development of a campaign in support of Team USA, which will be shown across NBCUniversal platforms.
As part of the campaign, Eli Lilly will utilise Team USA athletes as brand ambassadors to raise awareness of health-related conditions.
Patrik Jonsson, senior vice-president of Lilly Bio-Medicines, said: “The Olympic and Paralympic Games are a unique opportunity for Lilly to connect with Americans that may benefit from our medicines. And as a global healthcare leader, we can think of no better example of health and wellness than these elite athletes.”
The deal follows the news that the NBC Olympics division of US media company NBCUniversal will link-up with mobile-first video news outlet NowThis to produce content focused on United States Olympic and Paralympic athletes in the lead-up to the 2020 Tokyo Games.
The Olympic games begin on July 24 and finish on August 9. The Paralympics follows this, starting on August 25 and concluding September 6.
