UK Sport to increase investment for Sochi 2014

British sports funding body UK Sport will provide a further £443,200 to aid Team GB in the run up to the 2014 Sochi winter Olympics.

In a bid to hit targets of winning 52 medals in the 2014 Olympics and 126 in the Paralympic Games, UK Sport has pushed its total investment to over £14 million.

UK Sport’s director of performance Simon Timson said: “It’s fantastic, with less than a year to go, to be able to invest in additional medal opportunities in Sochi with the extra funding announced today, and I am confident that Team GB and ParalympicsGB’s performances in Sochi will demonstrate progression from Vancouver.”

Sochi 2014 will feature 12 new medal events including men’s and women’s snowboard and ski slopestyle, the ski halfpipe, snowboard parallel special slalom, the figure skating team event, the luge relay and the biathlon mixed relay.
