UFC expands South American footprint with Santiago event

Mixed martial arts promotion the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) will stage an event in the Chilean capital of Santiago later this year, it has been announced.

Santiago’s Movistar Arena will host the event on May 19. It will mark the first time that the UFC has hosted a South American event outside of Brazil.

Five bouts have been announced for the UFC Fight Night event, including Chilean Diego Rivas’ fight against Guido Cannetti. The other bouts scheduled are Vicente Luque (pictured) vs Chad Laprise, Alexa Grasso vs Tatiana Suarez, Veronica Macedo vs Andrea Lee and Poliana Botelho vs Syuri Kondo. The event has not yet been numbered.

The multi-purpose Movistar Arena has a capacity of 15,000.
