Turin drops out of Italy’s 2026 Winter Olympics bid

The Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI) has confirmed that its official bid to host the 2026 Olympic Games will comprise Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo, with Turin dropping out.

The proposed three-way bid collapsed on Tuesday, with Italy’s subsecretary of state for sport, Giancarlo Giorgetti, declaring the plan “dead” after announcing that the government would not offer its support to CONI’s proposal. Political differences had plagued the project from the start, with Turin refusing to acknowledge Milan as the lead city of the bid.
