Japanese consumer electronics company Panasonic has stepped up its backing of this year’s Olympic Games in Tokyo by becoming a supporting partner of the Olympic Torch Relay.
As part of the agreement, Panasonic will deploy a range of products and launch promotional activities to coincide with the relay.
The Olympic Torch Relay partnership programme consists of three tiers: Presenting Partners, Supporting Partners and Associating Partners. The relay will commence on March 26 in Fukushima Prefecture and will travel to all of Japan’s 47 prefectures.
Panasonic has been a worldwide Olympic partner since the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) sponsorship programme began in 1985. Its current deal with the IOC, signed in February 2014, runs through to the 2024 summer Games in Paris.
The company is also a top-tier worldwide partner of the International Paralympic Committee and will serve as a top-tier gold partner of this year’s Paralympics in the audio-visual equipment, home appliances, electric bicycles, care products and assist suit category.
