The total cost of the postponed 2020 summer Olympic and Paralympic Games in Tokyo could be lower than ¥1.5tn (€11.7bn/$13.3bn) as the absence of spectators helped to cut costs, according to a new report.
Japanese news agency Kyodo, citing officials with knowledge of the matter, said the total cost of the Games is set to be at least ¥150bn less than expected with no fans reducing labour costs and other outlays, and despite removing the estimated ¥90bn income stream that would have resulted through ticket sales.
