The organising committee for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games has named Mikako Kotani as its new sports director.

Kotani (pictured right), a former Olympic artistic swimmer and a bronze medallist for Japan at the Seoul Games in 1988, will begin her new role tomorrow (Thursday). The 54-year-old was part of Tokyo’s bidding team that successfully landed hosting rights for this year’s Games, which have been postponed until 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
