TF1 scores 12.5m for first match of France’s World Cup defence

An average audience of 12.5 million people tuned into French free-to-air broadcaster TF1’s coverage of the 2022 Fifa World Cup match between France and Australia.

The commercial broadcaster recorded a 48.1-per-cent audience share during yesterday's (Tuesday’s) match, which saw reigning champions France come from behind to win 4-1, with the fixture also shown in France by pay-television broadcaster beIN Sports. BeIN holds the rights to all 64 matches from the tournament while TF1 has free-to-air rights to 28 matches.
