Tennis Australia ends sponsorship with fossil fuel producer Santos

Tennis Australia has confirmed the end of its sponsorship agreement with gas producer Santos amid a public backlash against fossil fuel firms sponsoring major sports events.

The Guardian reported that the “multi-year” sponsorship deal was terminated after just one season following a campaign by environmentalist group 350 Australia. The group has accused Santos of “sportswashing”; using its association with popular sports events to improve its public image and detract from environmental concerns.
