Australian Grand Prix Corporation chief executive Andrew Westacott has said he is confident in Melbourne’s long-term position on the Formula 1 calendar, but admits there cannot be any “complacency” amid fresh reports that Sydney is seeking to secure the country’s hosting rights to the motor-racing championship.
Australian broadcaster 7News has said the New South Wales Government is holding “high level talks” to stage a street race around Sydney Harbour. The potential Formula 1 race bid would be part of the state government’s effort to secure more major events through its Covid-19 recovery efforts.
