Snowboarding ace Shaun White has acquired a controlling stake in the sport’s Austrian Air & Style series.
White, who won gold medals at the 2006 and 2010 winter Olympic Games and holds the X-Games records for gold medals and highest overall medal count, plans to expand the series by staging more events in the Americas. The 2014-15 season has scheduled stops in Europe, China and the US.
White also wants to develop the series’ entertainment aspect, with more musical elements and performances to complement the snowboarding action. “I'm excited at the opportunity to shift from athlete to host and work on expanding the reach of the event while adding a little more flavour with some of my favourite bands and musicians,” White said.
Air & Style founder Andrew Hourmont will remain involved with the company as a shareholder, global strategic consultant and chief executive based in Europe. “After 20 years of Air & Style I am very happy to make the next big step together with my friend Shaun,” Hourmont said. “We share a common vision of bringing snowboarding, music and lifestyle to the world’s youth. I could not imagine a better partner for growing Air & Style and the sport in total.”
