Study: NFL to gain more than $2.3bn a year from sports betting

The National Football League stands to gain more than $2.3bn (€1.9bn) per year in additional revenue thanks to legalised sports betting, according to a recent Nielsen Sports study. The study, commissioned by the American Gaming Association (AGA), cites two potential new revenue streams for the league: money paid directly from betting operators, and money from increased fan engagement.

Betting operators’ spending – in the form of sponsorship, new advertising, and data – could bring in $573m in revenue for the league, the study says. A projected 13.4 per cent increase in media rights, sponsorships, merchandise and ticket sales would contribute $1.75bn in new revenue.
