Brazilian football club Flamengo has extended its agreement with online gaming operator Sportsbet.io.
The pair previously entered into a one-year digital sponsorship deal in July 2018.
Under the expanded contract, Sportsbet.io will get logo visibility on the shoulder of the Brazilian Série A side’s kit. The gambling brand is paying more for the shoulder asset than any previous sponsor.
As well as the shirt sponsorship, the tie-up will be activated through exclusive promotions such as ticket draws.
Tim Heath, chief executive of Sportsbet.io, said the positive results of the activation of the initial tie-up with the club prompted the expansion. He said: ‘’When the synergy is good and the results are favourable, nothing is more natural than following up the project.’’
The brand also has a presence in English football, having signed a three-year deal to become Premier League side Watford’s front-of-shirt sponsor in June 2019.
The news aligns with a growing trend of gambling sponsorship in Brazilian sport after the Brazilian government relaxed legislation on sports betting in the country in December 2018.
