The $15m-a-year sponsorship of the Arrows Formula One team by telecommunications company Orange could be jeopardy, according to media speculation.
It follows claims that current CEO of Orange, Hans Snook, is set to step down after disputes over strategy with senior executives from parent company France Telecom. The claims have been denied by both companies.
According to Formula1.com, the Arrows sponsorship deal is one of the issues which France Telecom executives were unhappy with.
The unofficial Formula One web site quoted one insider as saying: “At one point in the negotiations, it was evident that France Telecom did not understand, nor wanted, the Arrows sponsorship. The sexy and glamorous image of Formula1 did not fit into the corporate parameters of senior France Telecom executives and they sometimes made that clear.
The existing contract with Arrows is set to run until October 2002.
