Spanish LaLiga football club Barcelona has teamed up with blockchain-based fan engagement company Chiliz, through which fans can interact via the Socios.com voting and rewards platform.

The agreement will enable Barcelona supporters to participate in surveys and polls relating to the club by using digital assets known as Barça Fan Tokens, which can be purchased through a Fan Token Offering.

Fans can also collect the $CHZ digital currency and Barça Fan Tokens for free through the Token Hunt augmented reality feature. $CHZ is listed on a number of leading cryptocurrency exchanges.

The deal, which marks the first blockchain partnership signed by Barcelona, will reward fans for engaging with the club. Rewards will be given for every different action taken on Socios.com, with fans able to climb up leaderboards and receive rewards which can be exchanged for exclusive merchandise and once-in-a-lifetime experiences linked to the club.

Barcelona said the deal is in line with its global expansion strategy and boosts its commitment to using new digital channels and formats to engage with fans.

Barça Fan Tokens will be available in the second quarter of the year. Some 40 million will be made available, each with an initial point of sale cost of €2 ($2.17).

Socios.com’s partners also include Galatasaray, Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus, West Ham United, AS Roma and Atlético Madrid.
