Singapore has announced it is bidding to bring the World Athletics Championships to Southeast Asia for the first time in 2025.

The 'Singapore25' bid is pitching itself as one that can develop athletics across the growing and populous Southeast Asian region. It leans on the city's hosting credentials established by events including the annual Formula 1 Grand Prix, the Southeast Asian Games in 2015 and the Youth Olympic Games in 2010. The 2025 World Athletics Championships also coincides with the 60th anniversary of Singapore's independence.
