Seattle NHL expansion group unveils $70m training centre

Seattle’s NHL expansion bid – which looks set to be given final approval by the league’s Board of Governors in early December – unveiled plans for a $70m (€61m) training facility in the northern part of the city on Monday.

The training centre includes three full-sized rinks – one with seating for 1,000 and two each with seating for 400 – and office space to serve as the headquarters for the proposed new franchise. The building is expected to be a hub for growing youth programmes in the area.

In addition to the $650m expansion fee and the $700m renovation of KeyArena, the cost of bringing an NHL team to Seattle will be over $1.4bn.
