Schmidt takes up ESL role

Thomas Schmidt has been appointed as a member of the board at esports specialist Turtle Entertainment, which operates the ESL organisation.

Turtle Entertainment is majority-owned by media company Modern Times Group.

Schmidt, who formerly served as managing director of the Team Marketing agency, will provide advice on the creation of packaging and sponsorship solutions for ESL’s various leagues and tournaments.

The appointment is designed to reinforce MTG’s strategy to accelerate the growth of competitive gaming to the next stage of professionalisation.

Jørgen Madsen Lindemann, president and chief executive of MTG, said: “For 16 years Thomas continuously raised the standard of the distribution and marketing of the Uefa Champions League, and as our long-standing media partner shared our vision of delivering high-quality content and building a dedicated international following. Thomas will complement MTG’s broad set of competences necessary to drive further development of the esports industry while creating long-term value.”
