Korean mobile device manufacturer Samsung has announced a special edition of its latest smartphone, the Galaxy S20+5G, that will only be available for Tokyo 2020 Olympic athletes.

The device will come with a “Mirror Gold Finish”, the Olympic rings on the back, and includes some special content.

Samsung has provided similar, limited edition phones at recent Olympic and Paralympic Games. Athletes competing at the 2018 Winter Games in Pyeongchang received Samsung Galaxy Note8 phones. Samsung provided 12,500 Galaxy S7 Edge phones to athletes at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. Athletes at the Sochi 2014 and London 2012 Olympics also received products.

Samsung released a 10,000-run, limited edition Galaxy S10+ Olympic Games model in Japan in May last year to commemorate Tokyo 2020.

Korea Bizwire reported in October that Samsung, an International Olympic Committee Olympic Partner Programme (TOP) member, would remove its company name from all advertisements for Tokyo 2020, and change it for product branding instead due to an ongoing trade dispute between South Korea and Japan. The dispute has left Samsung in a difficult position, as the only South Korean firm amongst the 13 TOP partners.
