SAMARANCH OUT OF INTENSIVE CARE

The former president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) collapsed a day after his successor was announced in Moscow last Monday.
He will continue to be under observation and it is thought unlikely he will be able to attend the Real Madrid-Lausanne Sport soccer match arranged in his honour for Friday.
IOC vice president Keba Mbaye of Senegal, who visited Samaranch in hospital, revealed that the honorary president had feared for his own life last Wednesday but said: “If I’d died after the Moscow session I would have been happy.”
Belgian Jacques Rogge was appointed Samaranch’s successor and the Catalan’s son, also called Juan Antonio, was elected to membership of the IOC.
