Rowing head Oswald joins IOC president race

President of the International Rowing Federation (FISA), Denis Oswald, has declared his candidacy for the International Olympic Committee (IOC) president.

The Swiss lawyer said: "My 40 years of service to the Olympic movement have provided me with a comprehensive understanding of our organisation as well as its role and significance in the wider world."

The 66-year-old has become the fifth IOC member to announce his candidacy for current IOC president Jacques Rogge’s position, who will step down in September.

The deadline to submit candidacies is June 10, ahead of elections in Buenos Aires on September 10.
