Roc Nation appoints Itskowitch for boxing push

Roc Nation Sports has appointed David Itskowitch, the former chief operating officer of boxing promoter Golden Boy Promotions.

Roc Nation, the agency founded by music superstar Jay Z last year, has brought in Itskowitch (pictured) to work as its new chief operating officer. The former executive at pay-television broadcaster HBO worked at Golden Boy from 2007 until 2013.

“There's no question the sport of boxing needs a new player, someone who can do something different,” Michael Yormark, the president and chief of branding and strategy for parent company Roc Nation, told ESPN.com. “We're energised, and we're going to make a difference. This is a huge priority to us. This is a highly serious business to us.”

Roc Nation has already signed up basketball ace Kevin Durant, baseball stars Robinson Cano and CC Sabathia and American football players Geno Smith, Victor Cruz and Hakeem Nicks.

Roc Nation has already secured a boxing promoter’s licence in Washington, D.C. and New York, although no boxers have been signed up yet.
