Raiders plan to build new stadium

National Football League (NFL) club the Oakland Raiders is reportedly planning to build a new 50,000 capacity stadium.

The new venue, which would be the smallest in the NFL, would cost approximately $800 million with the Raider’s proposing to contribute $300 million of this figure and the NFL agreeing to provide a further $200 million towards the project. It is hoped that public money will fund the rest of the $300 million shortfall, according to the Oakland Tribune.

Oakland Raider’s director of public affairs Mike Taylor said: "Both sides are conducting studies to determine the demand and financial viability of the project."

The lease on the Raider’s current O.co Coliseum stadium – which seats over 53,000 – expires at the end of the upcoming season and the franchise’s owner Mark Davies has stated that he does not want to sign another short-term lease at the venue without an agreement in place for a new stadium.
