World football’s governing body Fifa has sought to further the legacy of the 2022 World Cup by agreeing a strategic partnership with the host country’s Qatar Stars League (QSL).

The agreement is designed to raise standards of professional club management and administration across all 12 top-tier QSL teams, as well as the eight Second Division outfits. The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), signed by Fifa president Gianni Infantino and QSL counterpart Sheikh Hamad Al Thani, follows an independent review of the QSL that identified strategic initiatives to improve the competitiveness and entertainment level of the league.
