Promotion ramped up for ‘on budget’ UCI Cycling World Championships in Scotland

UCI delegation and 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships key stakeholders at Glasgow BMX Centre

Organisers of the 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships in Glasgow and across Scotland are preparing to step up the promotion of the event and remain confident it will be delivered to budget despite macroeconomic headwinds from Covid-19 and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

At the start of the week, organisers marked 500 days to go by announcing retired Scottish star cyclist Sir Chris Hoy as an official ambassador. Speaking to SportBusiness on the back of a two-day visit from the International Cycling Union (UCI) delegation, Paul Bush, chair of the organising committee and director of events at VisitScotland, expressed little doubt about the financial backing for an event that carries a budget of £46.5m (€55.9m/$61.7m).
