Private equity deal to usher constitutional change at Rugby Australia

Rugby Australia chief executive Hamish McLennan said planned private equity investment will lead to modernisation of the sport's structure in Australia, as well as shoring up its ailing finances.

McLennan told the Sydney Morning Herald he hoped to create a new commission to oversee Australian rugby, replacing the current "archaic" RA board structure. Decision-making in the RA board is dominated by the two most powerful regional bodies, the New South Wales Rugby Union and Queensland Rugby Union. NSWRU and QRU representatives told the Herald they would back changes.
