India’s Premier Futsal tournament will expand beyond its homeland for its second season, with a deal agreed for the finale to be held in Dubai.
The inaugural edition of the franchise-based league ran from July 15-24 last year and featured a number of football icons including Brazil’s Ronaldinho and former Manchester United player Ryan Giggs.
Premier Futsal has now struck a deal with Dubai Sports Council (DSC) under which the six teams of Mumbai, Delhi, Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Kolkata and Shana will compete in their home markets before heading to Dubai for the semi-finals and final.
As part of the deal, state-owned broadcaster Dubai Sports Channel will become an official broadcast partner for season two, which is scheduled for August.
Vimala Preto, a marketing executive for Premier Futsal, said: “Dubai and India enjoy deep-rooted cultural, social and economic relations. It is as part of our ambitious plans to extend the range of the exercise of futsal throughout the world that we have decided to boost collaboration with DSC. Our target is to repeat the same success we have attained in India in other countries such as the UAE, America, China, South East Asia and Europe within the upcoming five years.”
