Pirelli rejoins World Rally Championship

The International Motor Sport Federation (FIA) has agreed for tyre supplier Pirelli to rejoin its World Rally Championship (WRC) from next season.

Pirelli pulled out of supplying tyres to the WRC in 2010 to focus on its deal with Formula One – one that has been recently put under scrutiny by the sport’s officials, teams and fans for the tyres’ underperformance.

The Italian firm will join existing WRC tyre suppliers DMACK, Hankook and Michelin.

FIA rally director Jarmo Mahonen said: “Having Pirelli return to the series is very positive, and together these four brands will provide a great platform for open competition as well as choice and variety for our competitors."
