Infront Germany has added Matthias Pietza, the experienced winter sports commercial rights executive, to its executive board as he takes up a role with the German arm of the Wanda Sports-owned international sports marketing agency.
Pietza has been named as an authorised representative on the board as Infront Germany prepares to increase its focus on the sale of winter sports rights.
Pietza, who became director of sales at Infront Austria in March 2018, has joined Infront Germany in a role focused on the central sales of winter sports rights, along with premium rights and partnerships.
Infront said: “The move of Pietza from Salzburg to the Infront Germany headquarters tallies with the fact that a large part of the Infront group’s winter sports sales will in future be controlled from Frankfurt am Main. From now on, a dedicated new team will take over winter sports sales, which overall has a strong focus on the German-speaking market.”
At the end of 2019, Infront expanded its remit with the German Ski Association (DSV) in a new sponsorship rights sales agreement covering the 2023 edition of biathlon’s IBU World Championships in Oberhof, Germany. Infront is also the DSV’s exclusive marketing rights partner for IBU World Cup races and the Four Hills tournament. Infront also holds a direct sponsorship rights agreement with the IBU for the sale of title sponsorship rights and key advertising partners at the IBU World Cup and World Championships until 2022.
Management of the agency’s work with the German Ice Hockey Federation (DEB) was also recently transferred to Infront Germany, having previously been co-ordinated by the team at Infront’s headquarters in Zug, Switzerland
Infront Germany’s football club business remains under the management of Michael Drotleff, who became director of club football two years ago after joining from Bundesliga side RB Leipzig. Both Pietza and Drotleff will report to Marco Sautner, Infront Germany’s managing director.
Infront Germany’s winter sports team is led by Thomas Kriner (director of winter sports), who now reports to Pietza.
Pietza, a German national, joined Infront Austria from Switzerland-based sports marketing agency Tridem Sports. He founded the German arm of Tridem after leaving his position as IMG’s senior vice-president and managing director in Germany and Austria.
Sautner said today (Wednesday): “The sponsorship of winter sports has been dominated by the German market or German companies for years. By further bringing together our marketing expertise, we are creating more efficiency in the market and closer proximity to our partners and customers.
“At the same time, our national sales are also given more weight by the expansion of the team across different sports. Matthias is also a valued colleague who will use his vast experience to provide further impetus for our business.”
