PGA Tour China confirms opening events

The PGA Tour golf sanctioning body has unveiled the dates and locations for the first six tournaments on the inaugural PGA Tour China schedule this year.

The tour, which is being sanctioned by the General Administration of Sport in China and has been developed by the PGA Tour in partnership with the China Golf Association and the China Olympic Sports Industry (COSI) organisation, will feature a total of 12 tournaments this year.

The campaign will begin at the Haikou Mission Hills Golf Club from April 14-20 before moving on to Henan Jinshalake Golf Club from April 28 to May 4, Hubei Wuhan Yishan Golf Club from May 12-18, Shanghai Lanhai International Golf Club from June 2-8, the Beijing Pine Valley Golf Club from June 9-15 and the Shandong Junding Golf Club from September 1-7. The remaining six tournaments will be announced at a later date.

Tournament field sizes will range from 144 to 156 players and each tournament will offer prize money of at least RMB1.2m (€146,000/$199,000). The format of the tour will be similar to the PGA Tour’s other development series in Latin America and Canada, providing access to the Web.com Tour, the pathway to the top-level PGA Tour.

“Together with the PGA Tour and COSI, we are making strong progress to build professional golf in China to the next level,” China Golf Association executive vice-president Zhang Xiaoning said. “The announcement of the initial portion of our PGA Tour China 2014 schedule shows positive advancement toward our goals of advancing elite players from China to the global stage and developing a stronger tour within China.”
