Persib Bandung most popular Asian football club on social media, according to study

Indonesian club Persib Bandung has been ranked 22nd in the world among football clubs for its following on social media, in a report by digital marketing agency Result.

The Global Digital Football Benchmark report measured the digital presence of clubs around the world on 15 social media platforms, including Chinese platforms Weibo, Youku and WeChat. Persib Bandung was first amongst Asian football clubs, with 17 million followers.

The report said LaLiga reigning champion FC Barcelona had the largest social media among football clubs globally, at 260 million. Real Madrid were in second spot with 258 million. English Premier League clubs Manchester United and Chelsea were third and fourth, respectively, with 142 million and 93 million. Serie A champion Juventus followed with 90 million.

The report covered clubs from Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Americas.

The second-most followed Asian club is China’s Guangzhou Evergrande, 40th place on the list with just over 7 million followers. Third was Persib’s domestic rival Persija Jakarta, in 50th place with 6 million followers across Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.
