Alex Peebles, who recently left his position as senior vice-president, Southeast Asia at sports streaming operator DAZN, has been appointed as chief revenue officer at ECAL, the calendar communications and data platform.
Having joined ECAL, which is used by brands and organisations in the sports, entertainment, media and ticketing sectors, Peebles is to head up the company’s new Singapore office.
ECAL said that Peebles (pictured) will be in charge of all revenue generating operations, with a focus on “scoring transformative strategic partnerships, growing enterprise licensing, and productising ECAL’s data and insight business”.
Peebles’ impending departure from DAZN was reported by SportBusiness in April.
That move came with DAZN finally set to launch in the region as part of the wider rollout of a global boxing-led service. The international launch – originally scheduled for May – was delayed amidst the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic but is now being readied again. Ahead of full details being released in the coming weeks on the launch, DAZN has invited users to register their interest in testing a beta version.
Peebles has worked with either DAZN or its previous parent company Perform since 2009.
He joined to lead business development at Sportal, the Australian sports data company that had just been acquired by Perform. He served the company in a variety of roles in Australia and London before joining the Singapore office.
Prior to the Southeast Asia role, he was managing director of a joint venture between Perform and the NFL. Perform distributed and promoted NFL media rights and the Game Pass OTT service in territories outside the US and Europe, under a deal running from 2017 to 2021.
Earlier this year, ECAL signed an agreement with Stack Sports, a provider of digital services to national, state, grassroots and professional sporting organisations across Australia, New Zealand and the UK.
