The Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) is to stage events in Japan and Belgium for the first time in a move that marks the latest stage of the organisation’s global expansion plans.
An event in Japan will form part of the expanded PDC World Series of Darts, which this year will feature five tournaments in addition to the season-ending finals in November. The first edition of the Japan Darts Masters will be the latest addition to the series and will take place in the Asian country across the weekend of June 27-28.
The Japanese event will be the second event of the 2015 World Series of Darts, with the PDC having also confirmed that the series will open with the third edition of the Dubai Darts Masters in the United Arab Emirates from May 28-29. Details of the venues for the other three events, which will all take place in August, are yet to be confirmed by the PDC.
However, the Corporation has revealed details of its plans to stage the 2015 European Championships in the Belgian city of Hasselt. This year’s edition of the three-day tournament will take place at the Ethias Arena from October 30 to November 1.
Belgium is a developing market for the sport. Kim Huybrechts (pictured) is competing in the 2015 Premier League, while brother Ronny has starred on the PDC circuit in recent years and youngster Dimitri Van den Bergh heads the young talent emerging from the country after topping the PDC Youth Tour Order of Merit last year.
