Parma to appeal sanctions in match-fixing case

Italian Serie A football club Parma has retained its top-flight status but has labelled a points deduction and a two-year ban for forward Emanuele Calaio as “extremely disappointing” as it prepares an appeal against sanctions imposed for what the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) has classed as attempted match-fixing.

Parma is currently preparing for its fairytale return to Serie A following the club’s bankruptcy in 2015. After reforming, Parma gained three consecutive promotions to finish second in Serie B last season and gain promotion to the top division.
