Oslo confirms 2022 winter Olympics bid

Oslo has confirmed it will bid for the 2022 winter Olympics, seeking to bring the Games back to Oslo for the first time since 1952.

Bid committee spokeswoman Ingunn Olsen revealed that the Norwegian capital will submit its candidature before the International Olympic Committee (IOC) deadline on November 14, and also added that a formal letter has not been sent yet, according to the Associated Press.

Kazakhstan’s Almaty, Ukrainian city Lviv and a joint Beijing and the northern Chinese city of Zhangjiakou have announced bids to host the 2022 event. Whist a referendum will be held on Sunday in Germany on a proposed bid from Munich. Krakow (Poland) and Low Tatras (Slovakia) are also expected to lodge a joint bid.

The IOC will elect the 2022 Olympic host on July 31, 2015.
