Qatari telecommunications group Ooredoo has announced a sponsorship deal for 2014 with the country’s multi-sport star Nasser Al Attiyah.
Al Attiyah remains the only Arab driver to have won the Dakar Rally, following his 2011 triumph, and will participate in the legendary race as well as the World Rally Cup next year.
A bronze-medal winner at the London 2012 Olympic Games in the skeet category, Al Attiyah will compete in World Cup shooting contests over the next 12 months and represent his country at the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea as part of his preparations for the Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympic Games. Remarkably, he will also add another sport to his repertoire by competing in the World Cup Powerboat Race in April 2014.
Under the deal, Ooredoo’s branding will appear on Al Attiyah’s race cars, racing jumpsuits and boats, while the bullets he uses in shooting competitions will be named after the company. Ooredoo will also brand a special eco-friendly car as part of the tie-up.
Al Attiyah served as a brand ambassador for Ooredoo by promoting the upgrade of the company’s 4G mobile service in October. Over the course of the fresh agreement, he will work alongside Ooredoo on sports education activities in Qatar to encourage grassroots participation among the nation’s youth.
