One Championship adds Japan, South Korea to expanded 2018 calendar

Asian mixed martial arts promotion the One Championship has expanded its calendar to 24 events in 2018, including debut rounds in Japan and South Korea.

One’s 2017 schedule includes 18 events, but this will increase next year with the new South Korean and Japanese events scheduled for unspecified dates in July and September in Seoul and Tokyo, respectively.

The 2018 season will commence in Jakarta, Indonesia on January 20, and run through to Bangkok, Thailand on December 22.

Chatri Sityodtong, chairman and chief executive of the One Championship, said: “We have 24 massive shows planned for all sports fans in Asia and will continue to showcase the absolute best in martial arts, delivered by our homegrown martial arts superheroes. 2018 is going to be an epic year of action and I can’t wait to get things started.”

One’s main rival in the MMA market, the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), held its Japanese round of the season in Saitama on Saturday.
