‘No European Olympic games until 2016’

Speaking in Murcia at the V1 Olympic Days for the Youth of Europe, he said that the bids of Madrid and Seville for the Games of 2012 stood little chance: “It’s very difficult for these bids to succeed. Beijing has the Games of 2008 which is why I think the Games of 2012 will go to America or Africa and they won’t return to Europe until 2016. Besides, a city that applies for the Games is never elected at the first time of asking.”
Goyeneche also dismissed Spanish hopes of hosting the winter Olympic Games. Jaca and Granada have applied for 2010. “Turin is host for 2006 and Canada will probably get 2010,” he said.
