NHL signs cross-marketing and promotional deal with Green Day

The National Hockey League has signed a two-year cross-platform marketing and promotional partnership with veteran rock band Green Day.

The deal will see the league work with the band on a variety of initiatives, including the use of a new song of theirs, “Fire, Ready, Aim,” as the opening theme song for NBC Sports Network’s Wednesday Night Hockey. The song, to be featured on Green Day’s forthcoming album Father Of All…, will also be featured on NHL on NBC broadcasting throughout the upcoming 2019-20 season.

Other songs from the album will be featured on various league game highlights, broadcast bumpers, tune-in campaigns, and in-arena content. Green Day is also slated to perform as the headline act at the upcoming 2020 NHL All-Star Game scheduled for Jan. 25 in St. Louis, Missouri. The deal calls for other performances, appearances and collaborations involving the band.

“Green Day is the perfect band for the NHL,” said Steve Mayer, NHL chief content officer and executive vice president. “Their music fits so perfectly with the energy, speed, and power that we witness on the ice each and every night.”

Green Day is slated to conduct a worldwide stadium tour, The Hella Mega Tour, next year, along with Fall Out Boy and Weezer.
