New South Wales unveils major event hosting drive

The Australian state of New South Wales has today (Monday) unveiled a plan to secure 10 major sporting events over the next decade in the belief the effort can drive at least Aus$1bn (€635.8m/$746.8m) into the local economy.

The masterplan commences with the mooted international nines rugby league tournament, which would be held at the end of the 2019 season. Cricket’s World Twenty20 tournament for men and women, which has already been assigned to Australia for 2020, has been included, while the NSW government is also targeting the Association of Tennis Professionals’ (ATP) World Team Cup, which is set to return to the men’s calendar in Australia in 2020.
