A number of teams in the North American NBA basketball league will face opposition from overseas teams during the 2014-15 pre-season programme.
Israeli teams Maccabi Tel Aviv and Maccabi Haifa, as well as Brazilian outfit Flamengo, will travel to North America and feature in a total of nine pre-season games against a number of NBA teams. The nine matches will be the most played by overseas teams in North America during a single pre-season programme.
The series will begin with Maccabi Tel Aviv, which last season won the Euroleague European club tournament, facing off against the Cleveland Cavaliers on October 5 at the NBA franchise’s Quicken Loans Arena. Two days later, the Israeli side will travel to New York to face the Brooklyn Nets at Barclays Center on October 7.
Reigning Fiba Americas League champion Flamengo will face the Phoenix Suns on October 8 at US Airways Center before travelling to Florida to face Orlando Magic at Amway Center on October 15. Flamengo will conclude its trip two days later with a match against the Memphis Grizzlies at FedExForum on OCotber 17.
Israeli Super League runner-up Maccabi Haifi, which will return to the US for the fourth time in five years, will begin this year’s trip with a game against the Washington Wizards at Verizon Center on October 15. The Israeli outfit will then face the Portland Trail Blazers at Moda Center on October 17 before playing the Sacramento Kings at Sleep Train Arena on October 18. Maccabi Haifi will end its trip with a match against Canadian side the Toronto Raptors at Air Canada Centre on October 22.
The preseason series of matches will complement the existing NBA Global Games 2014-15 schedule, which will see nine NBA teams play seven games in six countries around the world.
