NBA communications executive John Acunto has joined marketing and communications agency FINN Partners as a senior partner in the agency’s new sports division.
Acunto will be based out of the agency’s New York office and report to Missy Farren, FINN’s managing partner overseeing the agency’s consumer, lifestyle and sports group.
In his position as senior partner, Acunto will help develop FINN’s new sports division further into esports, sports betting and professional team sports along with managing and advising current clients and developing public relations campaigns.
Acunto spent nearly 20 years at the NBA, where he managed communications strategies for digital and social media, fantasy and sports betting, esports, television partners and international business.
He also worked in partnership with many leading companies including Facebook, Nike, Gatorade, The Walt Disney Company and Verizon Wireless.
Among many launch programmes, Acunto worked on the launch of the NBA 2K League and the agreement with MGM – the first major US professional sports league partnership with a sports betting operator.
Since 2002, the agency has managed campaigns for every Olympics, The Dew Tour, International Champions Cup, Billabong, Quiksilver, Roxy, Shaun White, Disney’s Swim with the Star’s featuring Michael Phelps and recently Jamaica’s Reggae Girlz World Cup Campaign to France.
