NBA commissioner Silver defends Sarver punishment amid criticism

National Basketball Association commissioner Adam Silver has defended the one-year suspension and $10m (€10m) fine handed to Robert Sarver, majority owner of the NBA's Phoenix Suns and Women’s National Basketball Association’s Phoenix Mercury, following a formal investigation into a series of explosive racism and misogyny allegations.

In November 2021, ESPN published an extensive investigative report detailing the ownership tenure of Sarver, who bought the Suns in 2004 and also owns the Mercury.
