NASR PULL OUT OF ASIAN CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP

The Asian club competitions have been brought forward by a month due because of the Asian Cup in Lebanon in mid-October and the new dates have caused widespread problems.
Lebanese side Al Ansar have pulled out of Championship while Saudi Arabia’s Shabab Sahel withdrew from the Asian Cup Winners’ Cup. The number of initial entries was also down on previous years.
“We were very pleased when we were told we were to represent UAE in the Asian clubs tournament but the timing was not suitable for us to play home and away games,” Al Nasr general secretary, Matter Al Tayer was quoted as saying by the Gulf News.
“August being one of the hottest months, we sent many letters requesting the Iraqi club to play in the last week of September, but they insisted on August.”
Al Nasr’s withdrawal should see Al Zawra secure a bye to the second round.
